Open the Gate
Project type
Oil Painting
Oil on Canvas, 30 × 24 in.
A horse bucks beneath its rider, caught in a moment of pure movement and tension. Every part of the composition speaks to the struggle between control and freedom, with the rider committed to staying in the saddle as the horse fights against restraint.
Open the Gate was created around the idea of standing at the edge of something unknown. There is a moment in life when preparation ends, the familiar falls behind, and the only option is to move forward. The horse represents that wild and unpredictable force, while the rider represents our willingness to meet it head on.
The painting also carries a personal meaning rooted in friendship. It was created for someone entering a significant new chapter, while I was preparing to leave behind my own familiar life. We were both stepping into something uncertain, taking different paths but sharing the same willingness to see where the road would lead.
For me, the image became a reminder that we do not always need to know what is waiting on the other side. Sometimes we simply need the courage to open the gate.
Open the gate.
